Enrolling at Tisbury

To avoid overcrowding, or the likelihood of overcrowding, the Board of Tisbury School has been asked by the Ministry of Education to make an amendment to our enrolment scheme. Under this amendment, we are proposing that students will be enrolled if they live within the home zone described in the proposed enrolment scheme, which includes a precise description of the home zone (see below). This information may also be viewed at the  school office, where copies of the scheme are also available.

Please note:

  • The enrolment zone outlined in orange is the zone which has been updated and drawn to land parcels. This is to help clarify what areas are in-zone and which areas are not in zone.
  • The enrolment zone outlined in purple is the current zone, not updated to land parcels.
  • There are 2 areas on the map which are proposed extensions to the current enrolment zone.
**McMillan Street from Boxall Street to Tramway Road and  then south side of Tramway Road until Rockdale Road
**North along Rockdale Road until Mason Road east along Mason Road until Kennington-Waimatua Road, south along Kennington-Waimatua Road to end of Orr Road including Blondell Road between Orr Road and Nally Road.
The rules around out of zone placements and ballots are available on the Ministry of Education’s Web Page     Enrolment Zone Information

Turning 5 and Starting School

During 2017 the Tisbury Board of Trustees undertook consultation with the school and wider community about introducing a cohort entry policy. At the start of 2018, all children wish to attend Tisbury School will:

Will have 2 entry dates per term as pre set by the Ministry of Education. All children must be 5 years of age prior to start date. Please note this may mean some children will need to wait a maximum of seven weeks to start school.

Any child who is already attending another school and transfers into our zone will automatically be enrolled and start school straight away. They will not have to wait until the commencement of a term to enroll.

Please note: Under the Education Legislation changes of 2017, once a 5 year old is enrolled in school, they must attend full time. Unless there is a specific transition plan in place, which has Ministry approval. Children do not have to start school until aged 6, so parents are able to judge children's readiness.
